Why do I love these? Well, after talking with dermatologists, aestheticians, and other skin care and anti-aging experts, I've learned a lot about these ingredients and what makes them so great. Here they are, in no particular order:
My Favorite Skin Care Ingredients
- AHA - Alpha Hydroxy Acids: Found in cleansers and moisturizers, acts as a chemical exfoliant (all the exfoliation without the scrubbers that can scratch the skin)
- Vitamin C: It's an antioxidant, which is healthy for skin, but more importantly, it helps even out hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage, melasma, etc...
- Hyaluronic Acid: Found in dermal fillers, HA (hyaluronic acid) is also used topically as a moisturizing and anti-aging serum.
- Retinols: Tried and true, retinols and retinoids (they are different, actually) are a form of Vitamin A that exfoliates and reduces the appearance and progression of fine lines. I use a retinol that also contains green tea for my undereye area. It helps reduce puffiness and dark circles.
- Salicylic Acid: Used in acne washes, I use salicylic acid if I'm having a lot of breakouts. I use a topical pad to just apply the medication. It also acts as an exfoliation, like in a mild chemical peel.
- Glycolic Acid: I use glycolic acid wipes for exfoliation purposes. It's like a mild home chemical peel. It works very well.
- Benzoyl Peroxide Wash: Facial cleanser for really oily and acne prone skin. Good stuff!
- Facial moisturizer with SPF: I use a light moisturizer that contains SPF protection approved by my dermatologist.
- Zinc Oxide & Titanium Dioxide: Having these ingredients in my sunscreen (from head to toe) provides physical block sun protection vs chemical block sun protection. It's superior, and I won't purchase a sunscreen without at least one of these two ingredients.
