Botox for Scars: An Unexpected Combination

Image
In an article featured in Allure Magazine Online , it was reported that Botox may now be used as a treatment for facial scars. How would this measure up to laser and light treatments that are currently used to treat scars? Will it provide both scar reduction and anti-aging benefits simultaneously? It's an interesting application for Botox, which is often touted as the modern-day aspirin or antibiotics in that it has multiple uses. Often referred to as a post Y2K miracle drug, Botox is being tested as a treatment for asthma and depression and is FDA-approved for excessive sweating, migraines, and even incontinence.  It's an interesting discovery that Botox may help with facial scars. But will providers and patients make the switch from laser skin treatments, microneedling, and light therapies that are currently used for scar reduction?

Where should you go to get Botox?

Image
Botox is the gold standard for facial anti-aging, but with so many examples of botched Botox, where can a girl go that won't freeze her face?! There are a lot of tips out there from many different physicians and aesthetic providers. Tips include: Looking at before and after photos Reading testimonials Talking to friends and family who get treatments Checking with the medical boards to verify licensing & see if there have ever been medical board actions against them That last one is probably my best tip to you. Even surgeons you have seen on top TV talk shows can have medical board actions against them, and some can be pretty scary. Just one medical board action for something mundane is enough to raise my eyebrow (and not because of the Botox treatment either), because there are more than enough providers out there who do NOT have ANY board actions against them at all! Against Animal Testing for Cosmetics? Sign this petition

In 2013, Cruelty Free International was able to help the European Union ban animal testing. Now they've partnered with The Body Shop to ban animal testing worldwide with the help of the United Nations -- and you.  If you'd like to see an end to animal testing for cosmetics, check out the petition and add your name to the list. In the meantime, you can help put an end to animal testing by voting with your wallet. #GrabYourWallet Commit to only buying products that aren't tested on animals. That puts pressure on cosmetics companies to stop animal testing of their products. You had the power all along my dear. #Glinda #TheGoodWitch #WizardofOz Against Animal Testing Petition http://bit.ly/2rAcXWR

My Top 9 Skin Care Ingredients

Image
I've learned a lot about skin care recently, and I just wanted to share my favorite skin care ingredients and why I love them. Why do I love these? Well, after talking with dermatologists, aestheticians, and other skin care and anti-aging experts, I've learned a lot about these ingredients and what makes them so great. Here they are, in no particular order: My Favorite Skin Care Ingredients AHA - Alpha Hydroxy Acids: Found in cleansers and moisturizers, acts as a chemical exfoliant (all the exfoliation without the scrubbers that can scratch the skin) Vitamin C: It's an antioxidant, which is healthy for skin, but more importantly, it helps even out hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage, melasma, etc...  Hyaluronic Acid: Found in dermal fillers, HA (hyaluronic acid) is also used topically as a moisturizing and anti-aging serum.  Retinols: Tried and true, retinols and retinoids (they are different, actually) are a form of Vitamin A that exfoliates and reduces
